THE WORLD narrowly averted a nuclear catastrophe after Russia’s attack on the nuclear power plant.

Friday’s attack on the southeastern city of Enerhodar and its Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant drew immediate condemnation from world leaders, with EU and NATO foreign ministers considering fresh sanctions.

US ambassador to the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, warned at a emergency UN Security Council (UNSC) meeting that this attack reflected a “dangerous new escalation” in the conflict – one which could easily have led to disaster.
