TUI is the latest tour operator to have scrapped mandatory face masks on their flights.

Passengers travelling on flights to and from England and Northern Ireland will no longer have to wear them.

They confirmed in a statement on their website: “It’s no longer a legal requirement for those travelling to or from England or Northern Ireland to wear a face mask during their TUI Airways flight, but – in accordance with UK government and EU Charter guidance – we do still strongly recommend that you do so.”

Scotland and Wales are not included – the statement continued: “It’s really important that everyone aged 12 and over flying to or from Wales or Scotland wears a mask throughout their journey, even if they’re fully vaccinated.”

TUI also warns that travellers must still travel with face masks as many holiday destinations still require them in public spaces.

The airline added: “Whether you’re required to wear a mask on your flight or not, you may need to wear a mask when you’re leaving the plane in your destination, so make sure you’ve got masks with you.”

There are also two exceptions to the rule – anyone travelling to the US from the UK who is aged two and over must still wear their face masks, even if travelling from England or Northern Ireland.

And any travellers aged six and over travelling to Italy must also wear an FFP2 mask during the entire flight.

Other UK airlines have recently announced the easing of Covid travel rules.

Jet2 was the first major airline in the UK to scrap face masks earlier this month.

And the boss of Ryanair has said face masks are likely to be dropped from flights by spring.

Michael O’Leary said he hopes to see the end of masks on planes by the “end of April or May,” according to the Evening Standard.

Airlines such as easyJet, British Airways and Virgin Atlantic still require face masks to be worn by passengers during the flight.

Face masks could be ditched in Spain within weeks, with the hope that the Covid restriction will be dropped in time for the Easter holidays.

Thankfully the holiday destination scrapped the requirement to wear the outdoors last month.

And more countries are dropping some of their Covid rules, such as pre-arrival tests.
