Enjoy a proper shindig with these top tips for decorating your party venue

AT last, we can finally enjoy a proper shindig – be that a party or a wedding reception.

But if the cost of professionally decorating your event venue fills you (and your wallet) with dread, going DIY could save you some serious dosh.

Here are my savvy tips.

PICTURE PERFECT: To add a personal touch, photos can be your best friend.

Displaying them for a wedding or birthday can show fun times throughout the years or the couple’s journey to saying “I do”.

Why not hang instant snaps on bunting? Maybe then jazz this up with fairy lights.

I like the Wilko 50 White LED Solar String Lights for £5, cheaper than at Studio.com where they cost £8.99.

COLOUR CODED: Giving your party or wedding an expensive-looking, party-planner finish without forking out could all come down to your colour scheme.

Try keeping to just three colours for a stylish look.

FAUX REAL: Be it for a wedding, or just a regular party, who doesn’t love flowers?

Save on real floral arrangements by going DIY with faux blooms and bunching to match your colour scheme.

Shein has a great range, at super-cheap prices.

There are even hanging options from £2.99 a vine, cheaper than at Hobbycraft for £12.

THRIFTY GIFT: I love a party bag as much as any child and you can easily DIY your own favours.

Collect and clean old jam jars and fill with sweets to match your colour scheme. Finish it off with a ribbon.

SECOND CHANCE: Instagram and Facebook are full of picture-perfect parties, many with glorious balloon arches but these rarely come cheap.

If you buy balloons in your chosen colour scheme and fashion enough wire for an arch, you can create your own design for far less.

If you feel unable to do this, check out Facebook Marketplace for people who have had weddings or parties and are selling, or even giving away, their arches.

I spotted someone local to me flogging one for £10.
