Where’s hot in December? The best holiday deals this winter including seven nights in Madeira from £399pp

WHILE others fight through the sleet and rain, you could be spending the day on the beach in one of these sunny destinations this winter.

Of course, you might pay a premium for holidays during the festive period, but there are still some great deals around – especially if you book early.

There are plenty of destinations abroad where you can shed those winter layers and top up your vitamin D.

For example, on the island of Madeira, temperatures are still nudging 20C in December and you can find deals for flights and a hotel from 399pp.

If you want to travel further afield, head to Cape Town, to enjoy its natural beauty spots and explore its vineyards.

Prices start from £789pp with flights and accommodation included.

We’ve found six affordable hotspots for those who want to spend their Christmas on the beach.

Cancun

Cancun has everything you could want for a dreamy family break.

The city is known for its white sandy beaches, crystal clear blue waters and tasty Mexican food.

A lot of the resorts around the city’s “hotel quarter” offer great all-inclusive deals and provide entertainment day and night

Just two hours drive from Cancun, you’ll also find the Chichen Itza, an incredible display of the Mayan civilisation made up of a series of stone buildings.

Barbados

If you want to laze on a beach, cocktail in hand, we suggest you head to Barbados.

The average high on the island in December is 29C, and you’ll stay nice and warm in the evenings, which only cools to 22C.

If you like snorkelling, head to Carlisle Bay, Antigua or Paynes Bay Beach, on the west coast of Barbados to see some beautiful fish and even turtles (if you’re lucky).

Lanzarote

In December, the average high temperature in Tenerife is a pleasant 22C, so don’t forget to pack your beach gear.

Madeira
