Who is Sylvie From Loki?

The character who everybody assumed to be Lady Loki is revealed to be named Sylvie in the third episode of the Disney+ series.

Her case file names her as Sylvie Laufeydottir, and when Tom Hiddleston’s Loki comes face to face with her, she confirms this.

Loki says: “I’m not calling some faded photocopy of me ‘Loki’,” and she replies “Good – ‘cause that’s not who I am anymore. I’m Sylvie now.”

After episode two aired, fans noticed that in some international territories, Di Martino’s character was credited as Sylvie while most others, the United States included, only credited her as The Variant.

Eagle-eyed fans also spotted a spoiler on the official Zavvi online store, which sells a replica set of Di Martino’s character’s headpiece alongside Loki’s.

Instead of being attributed to Lady Loki, the Marvel merchandise set is labelled on the site as Sylvie’s.

What we know for now is that Sylvie has been killing groups of minute men and episode three ended with Loki and Sylvie seemingly stuck on a planet with no way out.

Who is Sylvie in the Marvel comics?

Marvel fans have observed that Sylvie is likely referencing supervillain Sylvie Lushton, a Marvel comics character who eventually began calling herself Enchantress.

In the comics, Sylvie was a teenage girl from Broxton, Oklahoma, which fans will remember was a temporary home for the Asgardians in the comics post-Ragnarok.

Sylvie was suddenly endowed with mysterious powers by Loki (although she doesn’t know it was his doing) – in the form of sorcery, transmutation, teleportation, mental manipulation, and telekinesis.

She assumed the name of the Enchantress, which belongs to Asgardian Amora, and heads off to New York to fight with the Young Avengers.

She is later tracked down by Amora and banished to one of the Ten Realms as a punishment for stealing her mantle.

She hasn’t been seen in the comics since.

Is Sylvie the same as Lady Loki?

In the comics, Sylvie is not the same as Lady Loki.

As explained above, Sylvie in the comics is a mortal afforded superpowers by Loki.

Lady Loki in the comics is a female version of the God of Mischief. In the comic books, Lady Loki emerges after Loki takes over a human female body.

However, for now in the Disney+ series, Sylvie Laufeydottir is Loki in his female form, and it seems producers have rolled the character of Sylvie and Lady Loki into a new character.
