Would-be PM Sajid Javid warns fellow Tories that delivering Brexit won’t keep them in power

SAJID Javid warned the Tories are “absolutely kidding ourselves” if they think delivering Brexit will keep them in power.
The wannabe PM said the bitter civil war has left the party looking “incompetent” and it will be “incredibly hard” to win the next election.

And in a blast at his rivals, he said the next leader must be about more than Brexit if they want to stop Jeremy Corbyn moving into N10.
In a tough-talking speech in Westminster, he said: “If we are honest when the next general election comes, whenever it comes, it is going to be incredibly hard for us Conservatives to in.
“We haven’t delivered on our central promise which was to leave the EU in March this year so we look incompetent.
“And we are very divided. And a divided country does not elect a divided party.
“So it is going to be very difficult.”

He said that Tories must “absolutely” deliver Brexit by Halloween – but warned this is not enough.
He added: “We might not slide in the polls. But if we think we can win the next election just be delivering something we should have done anyway, we are absolutely kidding ourselves.”
“Delivering Brexit by leaving the EU, the hard bit is yet to come.”
