Plumber reveals genius boiler setting trick that can slash YOUR energy bill
A PLUMBER has revealed a genius boiler trick that could slash your energy bills with one simple adjustment.
Millions of households are looking to cut their bills at the moment as a cost of living crisis takes its toll.
Inflation is expected to hit 10% this year as the cost of everything from petrol to groceries soars.
And one thing that’s really making people feel the pinch is rising energy bills.
The energy price cap soared by 54% last month pushing the average annual energy bill to £1,971.
It’s expected to increase by another 32% later this year, pushing family finances to the brink.

But there are some steps you can take to reduce your usage.
That could be turning off energy-sucking vampire appliances that eat up cash while they’re on standby mode.
Or it could be switching to energy efficient lightbulbs and using the microwave or slow cooker instead of the oven.
Now, one plumber has revealed in a TikTok video how you can even save money on your energy bills through the summer months.

You might think that once you’ve turned your heating off for the warmer weather, you don’t have to worry about your usage any more.
But that’s not true.
Your boiler fires up every time you turn the hot tap on or take a shower – or if the weather takes a turn and you crank up the thermostat.
The TikToker, Waseem Hussain, from Coventry, said households should check the domestic hot water temperature on their boiler settings and turn it down.
“Get it as lower as you can – maybe set it at about 50 degrees. Run your bath tap and if it’s still too hot turn it down again.
“The lower you get this, the more gas you’re going to save,” he said.
His second tip relates to the “mode” your boiler is set to.
“If it says comfort mode – keep this off,” he said.
Comfort mode is a setting that reduces the amount of time you have to wait for hot water to come through when you turn on the hot tap.
Essentially it means your boiler is working harder in the background so you don’t have to wait. But it could mean you’re wasting energy and adding to your bills.
While Waseem’s tips relate to his own specific boiler, which is a Vaillant brand, he said boilers from other manufacturers may have similar options.
If in doubt, check your manual to find details of your own boiler’s settings and how you can adjust them.
But while tens of thousands of people have watched the video and praised his tips, others have raised concerns.
One worried that changing the settings could risk Legionnaire’s disease, a lung infection that can be caused by boilers, air conditioning systems, taps, showers and hot tubs, for example.
Legionella bacteria thrive at between 20 and 45 degrees Celsius.
But Waseem claims that even if the water temperature is reduced, the risk of Legionnaire’s disease is extremely low in combi-boilers, because they keep the water moving rather than storing it.
If in doubt, consult a professional.
And if you’re struggling with your energy bills, there may be help you can get.
Millions of households have now received a £150 council tax rebate to help cover energy costs, and others may qualify for a £150 grant from the Government’s discretionary fund.
