LIVERPOOL have been given a transfer boost after Monaco confirmed they are willing to part ways with Aurelien Tchouameni this summer.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are believed to be keen on the midfielder, but are rumoured to face stern competition from Real Madrid.

In an interview with RMC Sport, Monaco’s sporting director Paul Mitchell admitted that the 22-year-old will not be playing with the Monegasque club next season.

Asked whether he was headed to Liverpool or Real Madrid, Mitchell laughed: “I don’t have a preference to be honest.

“As always when you sell a player, there needs to be fair compensation.

“Everyone was able to realise what a top player Aurélien is, but everyone also knows that we are an ambitious club with an ambitious shareholder, so no, I have no preference when it comes to selling him.”

Tchouameni, who has eight France caps, played a pivotal role in Monaco’s run to a third place Ligue 1 finish this season, making 50 appearances throughout the year and even captaining the side on occasion.

The central midfielder has made 95 appearances for Monaco since signing from Bordeaux for £16million in January 2020.

Liverpool would like another central midfielder among their ranks, especially one so young but still experienced as Tchouameni.

Thiago and Jordan Henderson are both comfortably in their 30s, James Milner’s contract is up at the end of June and Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain both only have a year left on their current deals.

Liverpool have already made one new addition this summer with the announcement Fabio Carvalho is joining from Fulham.

The 19-year-old was out of contract with the Cottagers but Liverpool agreed a fee of around £5m to avoid any transfer tribunal.

Tchouameni played 90 minutes in France’s Nations League final win over Spain in October.
