Cops and Secret Service officials rushed to the scene to investigate the reports, Fox News reported.

One tweeted: “Anyone hear the Glover Park explosion just now?”

Another posted online: “It was incredibly loud.”

A Redditor claimed the noise was the “loudest boom they’ve ever in their life”, while another said their internet has been down since they heard the noise.

It’s not known what caused the noise as investigations are ongoing.

Reporter Alan Henney tweeted that DC cops, Fire and Secret Service scoured the scene near the Embassy but found nothing.

The Sun has approached the Metropolitan Police Department for comment.

It comes just days after demonstrators protested outside the embassy.

Protesters held aloft Ukrainian flags in support for the Eastern European nation as some branded Vladimir Putin a “tyrant”.

Ilona Dolfler, who has friends and family in Kyiv, told WTOP: “We just came here to be together at this moment and express our outrage.

“They’re scared, but they’re not panicking.

“They stay calm and ready to defend their motherland. So I’m very, very proud of my fellow Ukrainians right now.”

Protesters called on President Joe Biden to “stand by” Ukraine amid the invasion.

Biden branded Putin’s aggression “totally unprovoked” as he addressed lawmakers in his State of the Union address earlier this week.

The US has followed Canada and the EU by banning Russian planes from its airspace as western governments ramped up their sanctions on Moscow.

Biden branded Russian oligarchs “corrupt leaders who have bilked billions of dollars off this violent regime” as he revealed the Justice Department is launching an investigative task force.

He vowed: “We are coming for your ill-begotten gains.”
