Boris Johnson covid announcement – PM endures brutal grilling at PMQs & may be knifed by his own MPs in ‘Pork Pie Plot’

IT’S D-Day for Boris Johnson as he endured a brutal PMQs grilling while his own MPs prepared to knife him with letters of no confidence.

Mr Johnson faced another fiery PMQs session against Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer this afternoon where he was grilled on the lockdown party crisis and asked whether he felt a Prime Minister should resign if they mislead Parliament.

The PM was also dealt a significant blow less than 30 mins before PMQs when MP Christian Wakeford defected from the Tories to Labour, offering a blistering resignation where he described Mr Johnson’s recent behaviour as “disgraceful”.

Dozens of other newly-elected Conservative MPs – many of them also from the northern ‘Red Wall’ constituencies that famously switched from Labour to Tory in 2019 – have threatened to trigger a no confidence vote this afternoon.

The attempt to unseat the Prime Minister has been dubbed the ‘Pork Pie Plot’ and requires at least 54 Conservative MPs to turn against Mr Johnson by submitting letters explaining they have no confidence in his leadership.
