Top Gear viewers rip into ‘car crash’ schedule shake-up – and even Paddy McGuinness is livid

TOP Gear viewers have ridiculed the BBC’s “car crash” schedule shake-up after the show was delayed by a statement from the Prime Minister.

Boris Johnson appeared in an emergency broadcast on Sunday evening to outline the next stages of Britain’s reaction to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

However, while the PM urged the public to take up a third booster jab amid increased cases of Omicron, BBC viewers were more concerned that his statement was eating into the start of the new episode of Top Gear

Hosts Chris Harris, Freddie Flintoff and Paddy McGuinness appeared more than ten minutes later than scheduled on Sunday.

Several enthusiasts of the popular series took to Twitter during the PM’s statement to lodge their complaints at the BBC.

One disgruntled viewer said: “Prime Minister delaying Top Gear. Not sure how that will go down with the voters.”

Someone else fumed: “I for one won’t be taking any notice of it! P****d off it’s rescheduled Top Gear.”

While a third quipped: “Boris’ car crash briefing delays our car programme.”

Presenter Paddy also weighed in on the show’s delay before the series aired – and he didn’t hold back.

He fumed: “Since Boris Johnson became PM we’ve put up with cronyism, lies, incompetency, Brexit bluffs and all round s**t-housery.

“Now though he’s finally jumped the shark! Man’s scheduled a press conference for 8pm tonight with no regard to Top Gear starting!”

There have been calls for Johnson to resign throughout the week after reports of a Downing Street Christmas party were leaked to the press.

London was then under Tier 2 regulations banning any social mixing between households – so strictly speaking, Boris may have broken the rules.
