Common Purpose: What Is Its Real Objective?

How many of us have heard of Common Purpose?  What is it and what is its purpose?

I decided to delve further into this little known organisation.  What better place to start than with the organisation’s own website.

I was met with a very slick site it clearly carried a cultural diversity theme stating:- “we develop leaders who can cross boundaries both at work and in society.”  Our approach to leadership development uses a robust methodology which creates a lasting impact.

Common Purpose is a British-founded charity that runs leadership development programmes around the world. Founded in 1989 by its current Chief Executive, Julia Middleton, it aims to improve the way organisations and society work together by developing future leaders through a programme of diverse challenges and approaches.

From 2009 it employed 125 staff and operated in 50 locations across the UK.

From 2015 it ran local programmes for leaders in cities across the world, and its global programmes bring together leaders from over 100 countries across six continents.  There are over 80,000 Common Purpose alumni worldwide, from students to senior leaders.  Sounds innocent enough? Read on
