Portugal SCRAPS Covid tests for vaxxed Brits – saving holidaymakers hundreds

PORTUGAL has dropped the mandatory requirement of Covid tests from Brits, if they are fully vaccinated.

The previous rules enforced a PCR or lateral flow on all UK arrivals, regardless of their vaccination status.

The new rules state holidaymakers can avoid the testing rules “if you have an NHS Covid Pass […] showing you have been fully vaccinated with an EU-approved Covid-19 vaccine at least 14 days before you travel”.

PCR tests can cost up to £100, which means families can save as much as £400 on their holiday.

However, teenagers will still need lateral flow tests – the new rules only apply to those fully vaccinated, or those under 12 who are exempt.

And with teenagers yet to be fully vaccinated in the UK, a lateral flow will have to be taken up to 48 hours before arrival.

Earlier this month, tourists who had not been fully vaccinated also didn’t have to quarantine after jetting to mainland Portugal.

The UK recently scrapped their green and amber list, meaning Brits can go on holiday to Portugal with few travel restrictions.

The country initially went on the green list for three weeks earlier this year before being switched to amber at the start of June in a move which caused chaos for thousands of Brits who had to rearrange flights home and Covid tests to beat a quarantine deadline.

New rules also mean, if double jabbed, UK tourists not only can skip the pre-arrival test, but only need a day two PCR test on their return to the country.

The pre-arrival UK Covid test was scrapped this month, and the day two PCR test will be replaced by a day two lateral flow test later this month.

We’ve explained some of the other rules to still be aware of, such as unvaxxed kids being banned from Croatia, and kids over one needing Covid tests for the Maldives.
