Who is Stanley Johnson?

Stanley Johnson was born in Penzance, Cornwall in 1940.

He was a British politician and Conservative MEP for Wight & Hampshire East from 1979 to 1984.

He is the father of Boris Johnson, the UK Prime Minister and Conservative Party leader.

Stanley Johnson, 80, has also written dozens of books including an autobiography entitled Stanley, I Resume.

Mr. Johnson has also worked for the World Bank and the European Commission.

Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, Stanley Johnson has been criticised on a number of occasions for breaching coronavirus regulations.

In July 2020, Stanley Johnson travelled to his home in Greece.

At the time, the Foreign Office advised British citizens to avoid all non-essential travel.

In September 2020, Stanley Johnson again made headlines when he was pictured by The Daily Mail in a supermarket without a face mask.

He later expressed regret for breaching the UK’s regulations on face covering, saying: “I’m extremely sorry for the slip-up and I would urge absolutely everybody to do everything they can to make sure they do follow the rules about masks and social distancing.”

Father of Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Stanley famously disagreed with his son over Brexit during the EU referendum in 2016.

While Boris was a leading figure in the campaign to quit the EU, Stanley was a passionate advocate of remaining in the EU, as was his daughter and Boris’ sister Rachel.

He described his son as “much misunderstood” during an in-depth interview about his life last year.

What is Stanley Johnson’s net worth?

Stanley Johnson is believed to be worth approximately £2 million.

Did he try to become an MEP?

Stanley Johnson was rejected from becoming a Tory MEP candidate in 2019.

He admitted he “failed to catch the selectors’ eye” after trying to become an MEP again, 40 years after he first stood.

The 80-year-old said he thought he had been overlooked because of “Anno Domini” – an apparent reference to his age.

How many children does Stanley Johnson have?

Stanley is a father-of-six and has been married twice.

Stanley had Boris, Rachel, Jo and Leo with his first wife, painter Charlotte Wahl.

She died at the age of 79 on September 13 2021.

Mr Johnson, 54, was elected as the UK’s Prime Minister in December 2019 and has steered the country through the coronavirus crisis throughout 2020.

He was admitted to hospital with the virus on April 5 after struggling with breathing difficulties.

The Right Honourable Jo Johnson, 45, followed his brother into politics and served as the MP for Orpington from 2010-2019.

He is now the Head of the No10 Downing Street Policy Unit and a Minister of State attending Cabinet.

Boris’ two other siblings, Rachel and Leo, are equally successful.

Rachel works a writer, columnist and makes regular TV appearances, whereas Leo is a film-maker and entrepreneur.

After divorcing in the 1980s, Stanley had two further children with his wife Jennifer Kidd – Julia and Maximillian.

When has Stanley Johnson starred on TV?

Stanley has starred in a number of reality TV shows.

On Saturday, November 28 he will feature in a Celebrity Special of The Chase on ITV.

In 2019, Stanley starred in a series of Celebrity Hunted.

The show follows a team of celebs as they try to stay off the radar and remain at large for two weeks as a crack team of hunters try to track them down.

He was joined by jungle camp mate Georgia Toffolo, alongside rugby star Gavin Henson and celebrity chef Aldo Zilli.

Stanley’s mission was uncovered on the show when he was spotted sporting a backpack by holidaymakers staying at the Stansted Airport Novotel.

Stanley also appeared in I’m  A Celebrity in 2017 – although he didn’t tell his son Boris before entering the competition.

His worst moment on the show was during the Factory of Fear and Stanley later admitted he struggled with the trial.

Revealing to the Express, Stanley said:“I was doing the Factory of Fear where you were tied to this rotating tail table top, obviously you had goggles on but it was dark dark dark.

“My god, I was trying to throw a ball into a hopper when it was going round and round and there were snakes and rats and god knows what, and I kept on missing.”

Boris’s dad was the fifth person to be eliminated from the show and came in seventh place.

During his time on the show, he also grew close to Made In Chelsea star Georgia Toffolo.

His budding friendship got him a cameo in Made In Chelsea for the first episode of series 15 in March 2018.

He appeared alongside Georgia Toffolo and fans affectionately nicknamed the duo Stoff.

The pair also starred in Celebrity Gogglebox which is one of many shows to snap up the unlikely pairing.

What are Stanley Johnson’s other interests?

Stanley focuses his time on environmental and population issues, co-chairing meetings for Environmentalists for Europe (E4E).

He was previously the Head of Prevention of Pollution Division at the European Commission.

His work in this field has led to him received numerous accolades, including the RSPCA’s Richard Martin Award for Outstanding Services to animal welfare and Greenpeace’s for Outstanding Services to the Environment.
