Good Morning Britain host Alastair Campbell has a dig at Richard Madeley after taking over guest spot

GOOD Morning Britain host Alastair Campbell had a dig at Richard Madeley today after he took over his guest spot.

Richard, 65, is in the breakfast show’s hot seat this week from Monday to Wednesday, while Alastair fills in on Thursday.

Appearing to show there’s a little friendly rivalry between the pair, 64-year-old Alastair had a pop at his competitor on Twitter while Richard was on air.

He wrote: “Can someone shout in Richard Madeley’s ear ‘stop calling him Boris’.”

Alastair previously told off his co-host Susanna Reid for calling the Prime Minister by his first name.

Unimpressed Susanna replied that she will “write down the rules”, to which her co-host snapped: “They’re not rules, they’re common sense – as Boris Johnson would say!”

Susanna hit back: “Don’t you think that calling people by their surname is a little bit… kind of rude? I wouldn’t call you Campbell.”

Alastair retorted: “Headlines do. I’d say Johnson… Call him Blair, just call him Blair.”

The shocked presenter exclaimed: “To his face?!”

Alastair accused his co-star of being ‘defensive’
Susanna suggested that Alastair was ‘rude’ and ‘very private school’

Today, Alastair took offence at Richard calling the PM Boris.

He added: “Watching the debate on @gmb – hard to escape the view the mask debate has been deliberately engineered by the government as the latest in their ‘culture war’ games.

“Added to which JOHNSON (not Boris please) has got bored with Covid like he is bored with Brexit.”

Awkwardly, when Susanna later brought up Alastair returning to the show on Thursday, Richard praised him.

“Oh is he?”, said Richard.

“I love Alastair, he’s great.”
