Poppy sales in the EU ‘scrapped over post-Brexit red tape costs’

POPPY sales in the EU have been scrapped over post-Brexit red tape costs, reports claim.

The Royal British Legion said there were added expenses including customs charges, and that it must register for VAT for sales to the EU from July 1.

Ministers were urged to intervene to save online sales of the armed forces charity’s poppy emblem to countries in the bloc.

The i paper reported that it told supporters in an email: “Regrettably we will need to cease sales to customers in the EU until such times that legislation is reviewed.”

It is feared the change will cost the Legion thousands in donations.

Shadow Defence Secretary John Healey called it “hugely disappointing”.
