Brexit latest news LIVE – Fishermen lash out at EU for double standards as UK shellfish to be BANNED from EU markets

BRITISH fishermen have hit out at the EU over “double standards” after it was revealed swaths of shellfish caught in UK waters are set to be banned from EU markets.

Barrie Deas, CEO of the National Federation of Fishermen’s Organisation said the the EU has been allowed to “cherry pick” its fishing rules.

“Broadly the EU view is that the UK has left the EU and must be treated as any other third country exporting into the EU.

“This contrasts of course with the EU’s position on fishing rights, as it has successfully negotiated arrangements very different than a third country,” he told the Express.

“There seems to be no quid pro quo and the EU has been allowed to cherry pick.”
